What are Registered Auditors?

Registered company auditors are either individuals or companies (see below) that are registered by ASIC as auditors. The Corporations Act requires that a person must not be appointed as auditor of a company, act as an auditor of a company or prepare a report required by the Act to be prepared by a registered company auditor, if the person is not registered. To be registered as an individual auditor, the auditor must apply to ASIC and satisfy the requirements in the Act.

What are authorised audit companies?

Authorised audit companies are companies that are registered by ASIC under the Corporations Act. Authorised audit companies may be appointed as auditor of a company, act as auditor of a company and prepare reports required by the Act to be prepared by a registered company auditor. To be registered as an authorised audit company, the company must apply to ASIC and satisfy the requirements in the Act.
